Several LCI linguists are working on projects aimed at developing and enhancing grammar and thesaurus tools (using syntactic and semantic criteria) which are used as automatic translation tools for oral natural language and research in written natural language. French and English are the languages described.

OUTILEX

Its aim is to set up a platform which brings together tools, dictionaries and grammars which relate to automatic natural language processing (NLP).
The aim of our approach is to produce, at some time in the future, modular application software which can be used for various applications and progressively completed to meet clients' needs as and when they arise.

INTERVAL

This project, which is backed by the European Commission (DGXIII) in the framework of the "Telematics Application Program" is fundamentally user-oriented and based on an agreement between the main European TMS publishers (Terminology Management System). Its main aim is to define a validation rule for subsequent developments in the selected areas in order to put in place rules and methodologies to create new terminology resources and adaptation standards for existing resources.

LEXPERT

With the help of ANVAR, LCI has been developing an expert system since January 1996 (LEXPERT) for creating and operating terminology databases which can be applied in Automatic Natural Language Processing. The new modular system will include a set of linguistic and terminology modules.

TRANSWEB

Backed by the Department of Industry in the framework of the Information Superhighway, the aim of TRANSWEB is to design and develop an machine-aided translation system.

PUBLINET

Backed by the DGXIII (in the framework of the MLIS program), the aim of PUBLINET is to design and set up a European publishers' network online.

PERFEQT

In the framework of MLIS projects (DGXIII), the PERFEQT project (ProcEdures & Rules For Enhanced Quality of Translations) originated from a partnership between three countries in the European Union.

The principal aim of this project is to provide an operational system for translation quality control, following an analysis of the time period between acceptance and delivery of the translation project. PERFEQT will offer a personalized application which responds to the critical problems encountered by translation professionals, in the form of (1) methodology et (2) IT tools.
