Semantic network design
LCI has designed and developed the following:
- A comprehensive conceptual network (833 concepts identified as yet) which provides information according to the meaning of a term. This approach has the advantage of avoiding the redundancy of semantic information, as the information is no longer determined by terms, but by concepts. Finally, this approach allows natural language ambiguities to be resolved.
- A comprehensive classification of areas of knowledge (731 areas identified as yet) relating to a given term ("Medicine", "Transport", etc.).
The results of this research were integrated as part of our terminology management tools and are used by the LCI Linguistics department on a daily basis.
Terminology databases
LexP is based on a maximalist approach to terminology. The format of terminology records anticipates almost all imaginable information (lexical, syntactical, semantic, administrative) for applications that use linguistic data. Hence very diverse applications can use the same terminology base, even if the information used is different. LexP's other major innovation arises from the fact that users are able to personalize the display of their information (list, sheet) according to their needs. de ses besoins.
Multimedia training
LCI has designed an instructional and didactic tool which enables terminology training, i.e. management and multilingual/multimedia use of terminographic data. This tool aims to:
- train users (fellow tradesmen) by defining suitable programs and internships in cooperation with universities.
- assess the linguistic complexity of a dictionary compilation project in terms of budget and schedule.
